Home

Welcome to the home of Sheffield Talking News.

Our mission is to provide a weekly overview of local news content to blind and visually impaired people in the city. We currently have over 200 clients registered to use our free service, and each week our editors choose an interesting balance of news and feature stories, which are read aloud by our team of volunteers.

We are always on the lookout for better and faster ways to bring the news to your door - our clients can listen online, via our free postal memory stick service, podcast, smartphone app or even via Amazon's Alexa.

Whether a listener, a volunteer, a donor or someone who wants a recording made, please explore the site to see what we have to offer.

What's Happening at Sheffield Talking News?

We are very proud to announce that Sheffield Talking News has been awarded a prestigious Kings Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) for 2023. This award is likened to an MBE for the voluntary sector, and as such it is testament to everything our volunteers, both past and present, have done for STN and our listeners. Congratulations to them.

KAVS is administered on behalf of the Palace by the Department for Culture Media and Sport, and they have released two nation-wide videos of congratulation, one from the Prime Minister and the other from Sir Martyn Lewis, chair of the KAVS. There is also an item on KAVS in The Gazette.

You can see STN’s own press release, issued on the morning of 14th November.

In respect of this award, we must acknowledge the significant role played by our late chair, Mary Callaghan, in leading us to this success.
